چکیده

A novel method for the control of stimulated Raman scattering and hot electron production in short-pulse laser-plasma interactions is proposed. It relies on the use of a linear frequency chirp in nonbandwidth limited pulses. Theoretical calculations show that a 12% bandwidth will eliminate Raman forward scattering for a plasma density that is 1% of the critical density. The predicted changes to the growth rate are confirmed in two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. Relevance to areas of current research is also discussed. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1382820# LETTERS

Single-fiber-laser-based wavelength tunable excitation for coherent Raman spectroscopy

We demonstrate coherent Raman spectroscopy (CRS) using a tunable excitation source based on a single femtosecond fiber laser. The frequency difference between the pump and the Stokes pulses was generated by soliton self-frequency shifting in a nonlinear optical fiber. Spectra of C─H stretches of cyclohexane were measured simultaneously by stimulated Raman gain (SRG) and coherent anti-Stokes Ram...

High spectral resolution multiplex CARS spectroscopy using chirped pulses

A simple technique for achieving high spectral resolution coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectra with a femtosecond laser system is presented. A linearly chirped and stretched ( 10 ps) pump pulse generates CARS signal only when overlapped in time with the Stokes pulse (90 fs), creating a ‘temporal slit’ that defines the spectral resolution of the technique. Multiplex CARS spectra ...

Subfemtosecond pulses in the multicascade stimulated Raman scattering

We explore recently predicted multifrequency 2p solitons in multicascade stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) that was mode locked by the dynamics of population at a Raman quantum transition; we show that these solitons are eigensolitons of a general solitary-wave solution. Soliton components at each frequency are bright pulses of the same (Lorentzian) shape, in contrast to the familiar bright–dar...

Chirped-pulse adiabatic control in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering for imaging of biological structure and dynamics.

Two novel control methods based on adiabatic passage are proposed to be implemented in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy for noninvasive imaging of biological structure and dynamics. The first method provides optimal pulse-area control of the resonant vibrational transitions by using a pair of equally linear-chirped pulses. The second method, named the 'roof' method, utili...

Chirped coherent anti-stokes Raman scattering for high spectral resolution spectroscopy and chemically selective imaging.

We describe a simple multiplex vibrational spectroscopic imaging technique based on employing chirped femtosecond pulses in a coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) scheme. Overlap of a femtosecond Stokes pulse with chirped pump/probe pulses introduces a temporal gate that defines the spectral resolution of the technique, allowing single-shot acquisition of high spectral resolution CARS s...
